Deborah Kay Cornell

      Deborah Kay Cornell, 62, Nevada,MO, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Nevada Regional Medical Center.  Deb was born on August 31, 1957 in Mitchell, SD, to Wilfred A. and Dolores Marie (Koch) Wermers.  On October 7, 1977 she married Peter W. Cornell in Mt. Vernon, SD, and he survives of the home.

     Deb grew up in Mt. Vernon, SD, and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School Class of 1975.  She lived in Plankinton, SD, for nine years and has lived in Vernon County for the past 14 years.

     Deb belonged to a Quilting Club and enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and making things for her children and grandchildren.  She loved being with her family and traveling with her husband.

      Survivors in addition to her husband, Pete, include her three children Justin Cornell and his wife, Jennifer, Platte, SD, Jeremy Cornell, Sheldon, MO and Jessica Meadows and her husband, Clarence, Tulsa, OK; her mother Dolores Wermers, Woonsocket, SD; grandchildren, Ryan, Allen, Julia, Quentin, Logan, Sean, Ella and Evelyn; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dave Wermers and his wife, Pat, Sioux Falls, SD, Deanna Jensen, Woonsocket, SD, and Susie Sejnoha and her husband Mike, Mitchell, SD. 

     Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada, with Father Peter Savidge officiating.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nevada.  Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 with visitation to follow from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

     Those who wish may contribute in Deborah’s memory to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
