Peggy Lou Butler, 88, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born on September 22, 1930 in Walker, MO to Frederick Franklin Roof and Ruby Clara (Palmer) Roof. She was married to Ellwyn Butler and he preceded her in death in 1974.
Peggy grew up in Walker and graduated from Walker High School Class of 1947 where she was a star basketball player in high school. Peggy was a life-long resident of Vernon County. She worked at Cox Grocery on South College Street in Nevada, was a clerk for 25 years at Armitage’s Hardware in Nevada, and then worked at the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement.
Peggy was an avid volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a top blood donor for many years. She was also a long-time volunteer at Moore-Few Care Center and was known for making birthday cakes for the residents. Peggy was a woman of strong faith and very active in several area churches and was a current member of the Community Christian Church in Nevada.
Survivors include one sister, Jean Francis of Nevada; stepbrother, Jim Perrin and his wife Peggy, Nevada; stepsister, Rosemary Ryan, Nevada; one niece, Cindy Spencer, Canyon, TX; one nephew, Don Goins and his wife Diane, Walker; one great-nephew, Dustin Goins, Nevada; one great-great-nephew, Bryce Goins, Nevada; one great-great-niece, Paige Goins, Nevada; step niece, Tammy Perrin Stanley and family, Nevada; step-nephews, Mike Perrin and family, Nevada, and Paul Murphy and family Nevada. In addition to her husband, Ellwyn, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ida Lee Spencer; and her brother, Ernie Roo; brothers-in-law, Glenn Francis and Kendall Spencer; stepbrothers, David Perrin and Paul Perrin; and great nephew, Jeremy Goins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada with Pastor Rick Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at the funeral home.
