Robert "Bob" Gowin Obituary

Robert “Bob” Gowin, 81, Nevada, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family.  Bob, the baby of the family, was born on February 16, 1939 at the family home in rural Nevada to Leslie E. and Myrtle I. (Humbert) Gowin.  He married Patricia A. Waitley on July 16, 1960 in Miami, OK and she preceded him in death on June 21, 1992.

Bob was well known for his craftsmanship of building, designing and remodeling everything from homes, barns, cabinets, furniture, and the grandkids’ playhouse.  Bob’s motto was always, “If the job wasn’t done right, it wasn’t worth doing”.  He had longtime partnerships with Richard Klump and Dave Franz both who preceded him in death.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Nevada Elks Lodge #564 and Eagles Lodge.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, playing pool and cards, dancing, and cheering for his Chiefs.  He also loved his new trucks, old westerns, his four-wheeler, singing to the crazy coon dogs, and was always up for a good BBQ, fish fry, dessert, or a cold beer.

Survivors include two daughters, Shelly Minor (Phil), and Kimberly Gowin; two grandsons, Dustin Dulier (Alice), and Justin Dulier (Kalinda); three great-grandchildren, Hanna Rae, Makayla Dawn, and Justin Caden Dulier; one sister, Margie Dulier-Fisher; and one sister-in-law, Carol Weeks.  He was preceded in death by his “Ol’ Lady” Patricia of 31 years of marriage; his parents; siblings, Glenn Gowin, William “Billy” Gowin, Frances Dixon (Alonzo), Clayton Gowin (Betty), Fern Lynch (Floyd), Lucille Shumaker (Harold), Leslie “Junie” Gowin (Marianne); son-in-law, Randy Dulier; and in-laws, Orville and Emily Waitley, Larry and Pat Waitley and Ernie Weeks.  And don’t forget his long-time fishing buddy, Art Sewell.   For the first time, Art had to wait on Bobby.  The river is up, the worms are dug, the fish are biting, and they have gone fishing!!

Private graveside services to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home.  At 1:00 p.m. the family will receive friends at Shelly Minor’s residence for a good “old time” BBQ and a cold beer.  “Tall Tales” are welcome.

Those who wish may contribute in Bob’s memory to the Vernon County Youth Fair or the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
