William Wyckoff Obituary

      William “Bill” Wyckoff, 83, Moundville, MO passed from this life on Thursday, November 27, 2018. Bill was born November 3, 1935 in Garland, KS to Lawrence Milton and Zora (Dunbar) Wyckoff.  He was united in marriage to Opal Luella Smith on May 30, 1962 in Bronaugh, MO and she survives of the home.

     Bill was raised in Deerfield and Bronaugh area and graduated from Nevada High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army for two years while stationed in Germany following WWII.  Bill returned to Vernon County and was a truck driver for Van Tassell Trucking in Pittsburg, KS. He later operated Bill and Opal’s Apco Station for 7 1/2 years. For most of his life he raised hogs and pecans on the family farm in Moundville. Bill was a member of the Deerfield Baptist Church. Memberships also included Masonic Lodge #108 in Garland, KS, and he was a life member of the Scottish Rite. Bill enjoyed putting puzzles together, caring for his pecans, his pets, and being outdoors. He was known for being there to help a friend in need.

     In addition to his wife Opal, he is survived by two sisters, Wanda Haley, Ft. Scott, KS, Ronda Bailey and her husband Roger, Ft. Scott, KS; two brothers, Wiley Wyckoff and his wife Sharon, Nevada, Weldon Wyckoff and his wife Diane, Louisville, KY; one sister-in-law, Dixie Thompson, Ft. Scott, KS; numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Terry Lawrence Wyckoff; step-mother, Maxine Klinefelter Wyckoff, one sister, Wilma Carpenter, two brothers, Willard Wyckoff, Wayne Wyckoff; three step-brothers, Maynard Thompson, Dwayne Thompson, and Edward Thompson.

     Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Pleasant View (Large) Cemetery in Garland, KS. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

     Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
