Carol Sue Smith

     Carol Sue Smith, age 72, of Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, August 18 at the Butler Center in Bulter, MO. She was born August 6, 1951 in Lamar, MO to James F. and Delera I. (Howard) Vinson. 

     Carol was raised in Golden City, MO and graduated from High School there in 1970. She worked at Job Corps in Excelsior Springs until their closing and then she came back to Lamar and worked as a café waitress for a time. In 1972, she moved to Nevada and began working at the Nevada State Hospital, retiring after 30 years. Carol was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Nevada.  

     Survivors include two brothers, Donald Vinson, Lamar, and James Vinson, Lamar; one sister, Wanda Hunt, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Patricia Schmoranz and Marsha Burris.

     Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. Interment will follow in First Christian Church IOOF Cemetery in Golden City. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at Ferry Funeral Home.
