Delpha Gail Simmons

      Delpha Gail Simmons, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at her home in Schell City, MO following a lengthy illness.  Delpha was born May 16, 1940 in rural Schell City to Arthur Allen and Elise Mabel (Kurt) Hillier. She was united in marriage to William Joseph Simmons on December 31, 1957 in Nevada, MO and he survives of the home.

     Delpha was raised in Schell City and attended Schell City Schools. Delpha’s husband, Bill, served in the United States Navy and as a result the couple lived in various places including Michigan, Florida, California, and Hawaii. In March of 1973, they came back to Schell City following Bill’s retirement from the Navy. Delpha was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Schell City and later attended the United Methodist Church in Nevada. She enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy, crafts, baking, was a past member, treasurer, and volunteer of the Schell City United Methodist Church. Delpha especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

     In addition to her husband William Sr. “Bill” of the home, she is survived by two sons, William Simmons, Jr. and his wife Toni, Schell City, and Ronald Simmons, Schell City; a daughter, Kristina Simmons, N. Kansas City, MO; one grandchild, Matthew Thornhill; great-grandchild, Erin Thornhill; and one brother, Francis “Sonny” Irwin and his wife Karen, Yelm, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her half-brothers, and half-sisters, Leo Hillier, Glenn Hillier, Ralph Hillier, Marie Mosher, Anna Bailey, and an infant brother.  

     Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City, MO with Rev. Michelle Whitlock officiating.
