Earlene Butler Obituary

Earlene Marie "Mimi" Butler, 87, of Nevada, MO, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday, October 29, 2025.   Earlene was born April 13, 1938, in Nevada to Richard “Earl” and Margaret (Thompson) Swope. She was united in marriage to Howard Butler in Lamar, MO in 1955 and he preceded her in death in 2021.

Earlene was raised in the Horton, MO area.  She attended Nevada High School where she graduated in 1955. After working at Nellie Don for a number of years, she began working at Citizen’s Bank in Nevada in 1975 and worked there until her retirement as Vice President in 2003.  Earlene enjoyed flowers, gardening, and vacationing in Colorado, as well as other scenic destinations. She also looked forward to the monthly luncheons held with the Class of 1955 at Buzz’s BBQ.

In her younger years, she would go antiquing and accumulated many items at bargain prices.  A skill that was passed down to her daughter and grandson.  After some time, she became a formidable golfer and thoroughly enjoyed the Country Club.  She became rather fond of going for rides in the golf cart as well.  Earlene had a wonderful sense of humor and an even better laugh.  Both of which will be greatly missed and never replaced.

Survivors include her daughter, Terri Meyers, Nevada; two grandsons, Jason Claspill and his wife Audra, Nevada, and Justin Claspill, Overland Park; two great-grandchildren, Korbyn Claspill and Zoe Claspill, both of Red Oak, IA; a cousin, Nancy Scism and her husband Dale, Nevada; and a special friend, Sue Rich, Nevada.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Finis Ketterman; and son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Meyers.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada with Jason Claspill officiating.
