Grant Douglas Obituary

Grant Alan Douglas I, age 67, of Sheldon, MO passed away at his home, Wednesday, December 1, 2021[RJ1] .

Grant was born April 30, 1954 in Warrensburg, MO to Larry Allen and Elsie Jeanne (Bixby) Douglas. He was a graduate of Shawnee Mission North. He was employed by Timken Belts, in Fort Scott, KS.

Grant learned carpentry at a young age working beside his father in the family furniture business. He had quite a talent for building incredible arbors and handmade furnishings. Although he was a motorcycle enthusiast, his true passion was boxing. Grant enjoyed watching, recording and creating archives of boxing matches across generations of great fighters. In his free time, he frequented flea markets and thrifts shops, hunting for treasures. Grant was a wonderful grandfather. He spent many weekends with his grandsons teaching them how to fish and spent most every holiday and Sunday with his family eating homecooked dinners and spinning stories that made everyone laugh until their sides hurt.

Survivors include his son, Grant (Cassa) Douglas II, Kansas City, KS; daughter Taylor (Jonah) Mendenhall, Independence, MO; brother, Mark (Brenda) Douglas, Olathe, KS; stepdaughter Robin (Jeff) Japar, Granite Falls, WA; stepdaughter Mandi (Josh) Ketter of Kansas City, KS; stepdaughter Lacey Strawder of Gouverneur, NY; stepson Joseph (Heather) Price of Bermuda Dunes, CA; grandsons, Silas Mendenhall, Scott Pettibon, Marshall Pettibon, Aiden Price, Collin Ketter, Jayden Strawder, and Parker Price; granddaughters, Mila Mendenhall, Malori Molway, Lauren Pettibon, Fallyn Strawder, and Emerson Price.

Preceding him in death were his parents Larry and Elsie Douglas and his beloved wife, Janet Lee Douglas, who passed in 2014 and with whom he shall be laid to rest.
