James Allan Klein, born May 10, 1951 in Peoria, IL, passed away in his home in Walker, MO on February 5, 2021 at the age of 69. James met and married Dale M. Klein in 1970 and they resided together in San Diego, CA for 40 years.
James served in the United States Navy as a 1st Class sonar technician from 1969 to 1978. He served three tours of duty in Viet Nam aboard the USS DE-1066 Marvin Shields. He was the last plank owner. When James left the service, he worked for Naval Ocean Systems Center in Point Loma, CA and worked for Dr., Waldo Lyons as a mechanical engineer. He participated in installations of various military equipment on Navy subs across the US. Some on the east coast, west coast, and helped with the lab in Wales, Alaska. Following his retirement, he and Dale moved to Nevada, MO in 2010 where they have continued to reside.
Survivors include his wife, Dale M. Klein, Walker; Jared D. Klein (son), Tyler A. Klein (grandson), Katherin J. Klein (granddaughter), San Diego, CA; Janiel L.K. Walsh (daughter), Jayna K. Walsh (granddaughter), Hot Springs, AR; siblings, Pamela B. Ross, Linda Shaffer, Diane Ruggerio, Jayne Ruggerio; he had large family ties with nieces and nephews and one aunt in Illinois; local family included Chris and Lori Baker and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother and father-in-law, Alice and Jermain Martin.
James was a wonderful husband and father who will be greatly missed by all.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Peter Savidge officiating.
