John Leroy Taylor, 80, Fort Scott, KS passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott following a lengthy illness. John was born on November 27, 1943 in Ft. Scott, KS to John and Bertha (White) Taylor.
John was raised in Fulton, KS and attended Fulton High School. He then entered the US Navy and later served in the U.S. Coast Guard. John lived and worked in Montana for a number of years and Amarillo, TX for many years before coming back to Ft. Scott in 1984. He has lived in Ft. Scott ever since. John was an avid Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed boxing and classical music.
John is survived by his son, J. R. Taylor, Richards, MO; daughter, Brenda Pettit, Ft. Scott, KS; grandchildren, Paige Nelson (T.J), Bates City, MO, Shelby Pettit, Greenfield, MO, Sidney Pettit, Nevada, MO, Joseph Reynolds, Pomona, MO, and Taylor Foulk (Matt), Ft. Scott, KS; great-grandchildren, Naithan Johnson, Kaiden Nelson, and Charlie Foulk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Stephanie Beerbower; granddaughter, Chelsea Hood; five sisters and one brother.
A private family celebration of life is planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
