Wayne Lehman, 78, of Nevada passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013. Wayne was born on October 5, 1934 in Beaver, OK, to Lewis Webster Lehman and Enid Muriel Barker Lehman.
The family lived near Booker, TX until February 1944 when they purchased a farm 16 miles southeast of Nevada, MO. Wayne attended Round Prairie Elementary School and Nevada High School and graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1954. He attended the University of Missouri from 1954-1956 and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Wayne returned and helped manage the family farm until it was sold in 2000. He then retired and moved to Nevada.
Wayne was ordained and served as a deacon at the Montevallo Baptist Church and after retirement continued his service as deacon at Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada. Christian service was a primary focus of his life.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Wanda Black Lehman, who he married in October 1983. Other survivors include his older brother, Edwin Wallace Lehman, Champaign, IL; stepsons, Clinton Black and his wife Pam, Lamar Black and his wife Carol, Sheldon Black and his wife Cassie, and Marshall Black and his wife Luly; grandchildren, Jennifer Mashburn and husband Chris, Amanda Corder and husband Bryon, Zack Black, Lisa O’Keefe and husband Jonathan, Lehman Black, Justin Black, Elizabeth Black, and Michael Black and wife Kayleigh; and, great-grandchildren, Logan Black and Daniel O’Keefe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Pine Street Baptist Church, Nevada, MO, with Pastor Chad Bailey officiating. A private committal will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
