Mary Jane Buckner

Mary Jane Buckner, 85 of Nevada, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Mary was born on May 19, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to Patrick and Kathryn (Sims) Cushing. She married Evertt Buckner on May 25th, 1968 in Nevada, MO and he survives of the home.

Mary was raised in Kansas City and graduated from Hogan High School in 1952. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Kansas City as a supply clerk retiring after 30 years in 2007. Following their retirements she and Evertt came to Nevada in 2008. Mary enjoyed traveling with Evertt, fishing and deer hunting, participating in her grandchildren’s activities, and most of all loved being with her family.

Survivors in addition to her husband Evertt include her children, Ed Garwood and his wife Cathy of Nevada, Rita Young of Belton, MO, Barbara Ann Rapp of the home, Jackie Giannico and David Shearer, Kansas, City, MO, and Dora Simmons and husband Jeff, Raytown, MO, numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Martha Johnson of Bella Vista, AR and her twin sister, Sister Marjorie Cushing, Topeka, KS, brother-in-law, Stanley Buckner (Linda), sister-in-law, Mary L. Buckner, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack Cushing, and three grandchildren, Misty, Andrew, and Tommy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Fr. Peter Savidge officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
