Mary Margaret Vermillion Obituary

Mary Margaret "Margie" Vermillion, age 69, passed away on April 20, 2022, at her home in Batesville, Miss. with family and friends at her side.

She was born August 31, 1952 to James Earl and Margaret June Keesee. On August 18, 1972 she married her high school sweetheart, John Vermillion, in Sheldon, Mo. From this union they had two sons: John Bradley and Jamie Levi.

They lived in Moore, Okla., until 1975 and then moved back to Sheldon when John went to work for the pipeline. In 1982, the couple moved to Stockton and in 2001, they left for Batesville, Miss., with John retiring from the pipeline in 2010.

When Margie graduated high school, she became a cosmetologist. She was happy to give a haircut to anyone who came to her house. Her husband and sons never knew what a barbershop was. Over the years she had several part-time jobs, but what was most satisfying was raising their boys and cooking with her granddaughters, who knew her as Nana and Mimi. She was a great cook although her husband, John, told her she was almost as good as her mother.

She was known as "Mert" to most her family members and a select few others.

About the time they moved to Mississippi, she started a lighthouse collection. She was anxious to show them to anyone and everyone who came through her door.

She is survived by her husband, John, of the home; two sons, John of Topeka and Jamie of Lawrence; five natural granddaughters: Summer (Antheny) Taylor, Ponotoc, Miss., Randi and Gracie of Blue Springs, Neb., and Camdyn and Hannah of Aurora, Neb. She is also survived by her sister, Diana (Chuck) Duffield of Topeka; along with numerous nieces and nephew; and the family living next door whom she considered her adopted family: Wayne, Jennifer, and Emmalee Thompson.

There will be a graveside service on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Missouri, with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
