Paul Long Obituary

     Paul Edwin Long, passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2025 in Atlanta, GA. He was born April 19th, 1932 in Wayland, KY to Ray and JoAnn Tipton Long. He married Margie (Smith) Long on June 13th, 1955 and spent 65 loving years together as she preceded him in death on October 16,2020.

     Paul moved his family from Wayland, KY to Mt. Vernon, IL in 1967, to continue his career with Inland Steele Coal Company and retired after 32 years of service. He spent several years living in Nevada, MO near his son Jim and family and over 3 years living with son Mark and family in Atlanta, GA.  

     Paul enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and vegetable gardening. For many years he volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program in Mt. Vernon, Illinois as well as the Central Church of Christ.  He enjoyed his Cincinnati Reds baseball and University of Kentucky basketball. He always had a soft spot for his dogs, especially Smokey and Ki.

     Paul was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Jimmy, wife Margie and daughter Elizabeth (Long) Doty.

     Paul is survived by his sons Jim and wife Jody (Mestel) Long of Nevada, MO, and Mark and wife Leigh Ann (Bishop) Long of Atlanta, GA.

     Grandchildren: Dustin Long of Jefferson City, MO, Jessica Wright (Phil) of Bentonville, AR, Morgan Long (Caitlyn) of Gravette, AR, Scott Long (Jessica) of Canton, OH, Amanda Kay Long of Lancaster, TX, Clay Doty (Kaylan) of Evansville, IN, Great Grandchildren Jax and Ry Long, Wes Long, Jaden Wright, Arlo and Sonny Long.

      He deeply loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed by us all.

     Services will be held Saturday, February 22nd, at 1:30 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO.
