Roy Bliss Obituary

Roy Robert Bliss, lovingly known as “Skipper” or “Skip,” passed away peacefully after a week-long hospital stay, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Nevada on April 26, 1951, Skip was the son of Raymond and Patricia Bliss, who preceded him in death.

He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Debbie Bliss, whom he married in 1969, and in a beautiful full-circle moment, rewed 50 years later in 2019; and his sisters, Judy Groves and Peggy Kimzey.

Skip lived a full and active life. He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts, the Masons, and the Jaycees. He also participated in the Optimist Boxing Club, where his dedication and athleticism earned him both first and second-place finishes in the Joplin Golden Gloves competitions.

Skip proudly served in the Army during the early 1970s. He was known by all who loved him for his sharp wit, tireless work ethic, and incredible talent for storytelling—both spoken and written. His ability to bring a smile or laugh to any room was a gift he shared generously throughout his life.

He will be remembered for his strength, his humor, and the love he shared with his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Skip worked as a master plumber in Nevada for over 30 years, earning the respect and trust of countless customers and colleagues. His work ethic and commitment to his craft were hallmarks of his character.

Though Skip experienced many chapters in life, it was through the love and guidance of his daughter, Patricia Miller, and his growing faith in Jesus Christ that he found strength and peace in his later years.

Skip leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy: daughter Tracy (Jason) Carleton of Grain Valley, MO; daughter Patricia (David) Miller of Nevada, MO; and stepson Brian Bliss of Nevada, MO; step daughter Angie Anders of Branson MO. as well as his sister Millie Rose of Nevada, MO. He had many cherished nieces and nephews and was a proud grandfather and greatgrandfather to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.

In accordance with his wishes, Skip will be cremated and laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Debbie. While no formal services will be held, the family will host a small celebration of life at the Spring Street Park in Nevada, Missouri, with details to be announced at a later date.

Skip’s stories, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
