Roy Taylor Obituary

     Roy Eldon “Bud” Taylor, 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Roy was born on December 27, 1932 in Nevada, Missouri, to Roy Ellsworth and Bertha Maude (Wilson) Taylor. He met Joy Ann Williams at the roller skating rink, and they were married on October 19, 1954 in Nevada, MO. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2013.

     A lifelong resident of Nevada, Roy graduated from Nevada High School, class of 1950. He was drafted to Korea in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army March 31, 1953 - March 30, 1955. He raised his family on the farm where he grew up, operating the family farm and contributing to various building projects for Pohl and Bauman construction companies before forming and running his own construction company. A member of the Masons, he was a past Master of Osage Lodge #303. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church. In his retirement, he enjoyed coffee clubs at 54 Cafe and McDonald’s.

     In addition to his wife, Joy, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Gast, Marjory Gast, and Dorothy Tyer, and his great-granddaughter, Eliza Taylor Duckworth. 

     Survivors include his four children: Thomas Walter Taylor and his wife, Caroline, of Nevada, MO; Terri Webber Beam and her husband, Ken, of Millington, TN; Timothy Wayne Taylor and his wife, Anita, of Attica, IN; Tamara Susan Beach and her husband, Roger, of Nevada, MO. 

     Grandchildren: Lisa (Craig) Little, Amanda (Dan) Shipman, Brooke Taylor (David) Duckworth, Brandon (JoAnna) Taylor, Brandi (Trey) Todd, Bradley (Monica) Webber, and Rebekah (Charles) Lorewood. Grandchildren through marriage: David (Lindsay) Baxter, Barbie Baxter, Theodore (Tammy) Baxter, Susan Baxter, Sarah Johnson, Justin (Jacqueline) Thomas, Nick Thomas, Tammy Coker, Melissa Webber, Greg (Cammie) Beam, Tim (LaDonia) Beam, Alisha (Chris) Hill, Tina Beam, Tiffany (Stuart) McWilliams, and Jamie (Thomas) Short. 

     Great-grandchildren: Layla & Landry Pride, Linley Little; Caroline, Colette & Genevieve Duckworth; Curie, Kelvin & Turing Taylor; Mesa & Indi Todd; Paisley Webber; and Jorah Lorewood; Tyra, Jalah & Kenslee Baxter; Bella Baxter; Samuel & Sidrah Johnson; Haley & Brady Thomas; Alex & Bethany McWilliams; Bryce & Paige Goins, Alexis Dipman, Makenna, Morgan, Tommy, Samantha & Raelynn Short; Maria, Leigh Ann & David Beam; Joshua, Emily, Ashley & Jacob Beam; and Lora & Joseph Hill. 

     Survivors also include his sister, Margaret “Dottie” Scott, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many dear friends. 

     A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 10:30am in the Deerfield Cemetery with Rev. Bob Beaver officiating.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in care of Ferry Funeral Home to the Vernon County Youth Fair or Riverside Cowboy Church Rodeo Bible Camp.
