Russell William Johnson, 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Deerfield, MO, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Russell was born on March 19, 1954, in Ft. Scott, KS, to W.C. and Virginia (Weber) Johnson. Russell was married on February 5, 1988, to Ronda Gundy and she survives of the home.
Russell grew up in Deerfield, attending 1st-4th grades at Pleasant Valley School. In 5th grade, he enrolled in the Nevada school district and graduated from Nevada High School in 1972. Russell began his college studies at Ft. Scott Community College for two years, then completed his final two years at Pittsburg State University, graduating in 1976 with a major in Business. After college, he began his farming career and continued farming until retirement in 2021.
Russell was a member of the BPOE Elks # 564, served on the Coal Township Board, and was a Prairie Pride Board Member. He enjoyed racing late models, bowling, boating, and watching sports on TV.
In addition to his wife, Ronda, Russell is survived by their three children: Reanna Villagomez (Greg), Nevada, MO, Ron Johnson (Mandy), Kansas City, MO, and Russell A. “Rusty” Johnson (Hailee), Deerfield, MO; six grandchildren: Greyson Villagomez, Ronan Villagomez, Graham Villagomez, Dax Johnson, Elle Johnson, and Callee Jo Johnson; five nephews; and a sister-in-law, Crystal Garver (Kevin), Raymore, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Johnson; and a nephew.
Graveside committal services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Deerfield Cemetery, with Pastor Ryan Watts officiating. Those who wish may contribute in Russell’s memory to the Deerfield Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
