Winston Lee Baucom, 98, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 in Cameron, MO. Winston was born October 25, 1922 in Carthage, MO to Roscoe C. and Edna P. (Owen) Baucom. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Wood on May 17, 1947 in Nevada, MO and she preceded his in death on April 29, 2014.
Winston graduated from Nevada High School in 1941 where he played quarterback his senior year of high school. He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. Following his years in the service he worked as a clerk for the United State Postal Service from 1948-1978 until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and for several years coached Little League Baseball in Nevada.
Survivors include two daughters, Kerry Tait, Springfield, MO, and Marylynn Elkin (Larry), Lee’s Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Scott Williams (Kellie), Warrensburg, MO, Brad Elkin (Jami), St. Louis, MO, Christopher Elkin, Lee’s Summit, John Elkin (Hilarie), Lee’s Summit, Emily Gilbert (Ryan), Lee’s Summit; nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Phyllis, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Williams, and on brother, Robert Baucom.
Visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
